KAIST has strategies of developing and strengthening relations with both domestic and international industries, raising its level of visibility in the world, and conducting groundbreaking research aimed at solving the issue of global sustainability. This is evident by specific data and achievements: 60% of last year’s 765 million USD budget was secured as research grants, with a large proportion coming directly from the government. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WPO) annual report on the analysis of international patent submissions, KAIST was ranked fifth for most international patents among universities worldwide. Furthermore, KAIST was recognized as one of the Top 100 Global Innovators by Thomson Reuters and has consistently ranked 56th and 60th in the world by Times Higher Education and QS, respectively (2013).
