Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology

Gwangju - KOREA

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is a research-oriented university that focuses on the essential fields of applied science and engineering. The Institute was founded in 1993 by the Korean government to meet the nation’s need for advanced research and to enhance the development of higher education in science and engineering. GIST is now taking a leading role in performing research and development, powered by super-labs and research centers, in cooperation with industry sectors. From the beginning, GIST has been offering highly-focused internationalized (i.e., with over 10% international students and English-based lectures) academic programs with 5 (recently expanded to 6) Graduate Schools and has demonstrated its research capabilities by marking the top-level spots among Korean universities in all categories of academic and research performance. Also, in 2010, GIST opened its doors to undergraduate students, where we now established a special cooperation with the prestigious California Institute of Technology in California, USA.
